A toll free number in China is a number that allows customers (in China) to contact your business without being charged international rates. There are two types of China toll free numbers available: 800 numbers and 400 numbers. 800 numbers are the most complex and don’t always work from mobile phones and certain landlines which isn’t practical for daily business operations.
Unlike the original toll free numbers in China, 400 numbers can be accessed from all over China – including landlines and mobile phones. However, these numbers are not completely free and callers may have to pay a small access fee (usually the local telephone rate) while the receiver pays the long-distance rate. This is well known in China.

There are other formats of 400 numbers that can only be routed to domestic numbers in China, such as 400 0XXX XXX, 400 6XXX XXX, 400 7XXXXXX, and 400 8XXX XXX.
