What is an 0800 number?
0800 (and 0808) are Freephone ranges in the UK numbering plan: they’re non-geographic and “free to caller”. In Ofcom’s plan, “free to caller” means a retail price of £0 (and, where relevant, public payphones shouldn’t require coins/cards). Practically, this means callers in the UK can dial you for free from both mobiles and landlines.
Who can buy 0800 numbers?
Any organisation or company can buy these numbers. There are no sector restrictions on adopting 0800 numbers. 0800 numbers are designated simply as non-geographic Freephone in the National Telephone Numbering Plan.
How much does it cost to call an 0800 number?
· For your callers (UK): Free from UK mobiles and landlines under Ofcom’s “UK Calling” rules.
· From outside the UK: Charges and connectivity vary (overseas providers may charge your caller or in some cases may not route the call).
· Behind the scenes: Because calls are free to the caller, your organisation pays the inbound call costs.

Frequently Asked Questions About 0800 Phone Numbers
Once you have placed your order with us for a UIFN we approach each country you need the service live in and request them to build the number on their network. The data build for this varies for each country but we continue to push the local carriers for this work to be completed as soon as possible. Once the number has been built in country, we are able to forward the inbound calls to your existing office location anywhere in the world. You can select a different termination number for each country so that you can overcome any language barriers.
UIFN number format is +800 xxxx xxxx, the caller will need to enter the country exit code followed by the number, for example in the UK you would dial 00800 xxxx xxxx and from Australia the caller would dial 0011800 xxxx xxxx
We often keep UIFN’s in stock available for immediate release. Please contact us on +44 (0)207 3055 999 if you would like to know about our current availability.
Universal toll free numbers are incredibly popular today. It would be easier to ask who doesn’t use one! They are relied on – and can benefit – all businesses, be it small start-up firms, software development companies or five-star hotels to name a few. Although very different in terms of what products and services they provide, and their locations, they all want to give their customers a single phone number – one that allows them to reach technical support, or customer services, fast and free of charge.
Are you the same? If so, get in touch with us at G Tele and check out what universal toll free numbers are available today.
There are countless ways businesses can benefit from Universal Toll Free numbers.
For instance, you can limit risk while testing new markets. Universal toll free numbers make your business contactable to existing and potential customers and – if they know that they can call these numbers at absolutely no cost to them – they are more inclined to call and enquire about a product or service. Since you’re the one who’s paying for the calls, instead of the caller, universal toll free numbers give the impression that your company cares about its customers. So, if you haven’t already, it’s certainly worth considering one for your business.
Another factor is portability. Here at G Tele, we understand that things in the business world can change and, for whatever reason, you might want to move your business. The great news is a UIFN ticks all the right boxes. It’s easy to port from one place to another (including overseas), and you can switch network providers if necessary.
One of these numbers will allow you to advertise your business from all angles – in several countries from the list above. Any calls made to the number can be forwarded to your landline, mobile or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone, and you can track the calls and messages via an online dashboard.
Universal toll free numbers are ideal if you have customers in multiple countries as you’ll have one telephone number, rather than different numbers for different countries. This is great for marketing and promotion too because you’ll only need to publish one number on your websites, business cards, advertisements, letters, etc. It’s also helpful if you choose a number that is easy to remember, such as a vanity number (i.e. a memorable sequence of numbers or numbers that spell out a word or phrase).
It’s not surprising that universal toll free numbers are employed by businesses in worldwide destinations when they bring so many benefits. And, thanks to advances in technology, they are easier to obtain than ever before.
Universal toll free numbers are available to buy from several different phone forwarding services – including us at G Tele. All you have to do is request a custom quote by emailing your requirements to sales@gtele.com , and we’ll get back to you with a fantastic price. It’s as simple as that. What’s more, here at G Tele, we are transparent so offer no hidden fees or charges!
